◎ Outdoor Classroom

In recent years, as a low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and healthy way to exercise, cycling has quietly gained popularity in cities. Although riding a bicycle is an excellent form of fitness, there are many things to pay attention to while cycling. Only by doing so can you avoid physical injuries during the activity.

◎ Do not shift to the highest gear when climbing a hill—always choose an appropriate gear that allows you to smoothly get through the slope.

◎ Charging up every hill with full force, lifting your hips off the saddle, and pedaling frantically is not a wise choice. At this time, it's essential to make good use of gear shifting to maintain stable effort while going uphill. Moreover, don’t suddenly stand up to pedal when climbing. Instead, slowly lift your hips off the saddle with gentle and smooth movements. When you suddenly stand up to climb, your bike tends to jerk slightly backward, and side-to-side swaying can cancel out the power from the front wheel.

◎ Don’t stare at the road or obstacles ahead—focus instead on the direction your bike is heading. The movement of the bike follows your line of sight. If you keep your eyes fixed on an obstacle, your bike will naturally steer toward it. Fighter pilots call this “target fixation.”

◎ Additionally, if you’re new to cycling, to ensure your safety, besides seeking advice from experienced riders, you should also purchase necessary gear. A helmet and gloves are absolutely essential. As for your “ride,” you can buy a well-known brand’s complete bicycle from a major bike shop. Alternatively, you can buy parts from a shop and assemble them yourself. Personally, I recommend assembling your own bike—it’s more personalized and better suited to your body type and riding habits.
