Shiguan Temple

Shiguan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shiguan Temple is located 5 kilometers south of the city. On the right side, the mountain peak splits into several fissures shaped like a fish’s mouth, known as the Fish Mouth. Three rows of thin rock slabs are truly spectacular. In the past, a passage was carved out and fitted with short railings, leading to an ancient temple named Shiguan Temple. Inside the temple, there is a path so narrow it barely accommodates the toes, winding upwards and spiraling downwards, both of which are dizzying and awe-inspiring. From high above, one can look down upon clusters of jagged rocks, piled up like eggs, sheer as cliffs, with two cliffs facing each other as if trying to swallow one another. In summer, the rushing waters are as fierce as drumbeats. During the Republic of China period, the Han-Yu Highway was built through tunnels here, with three continuous tunnels situated just a short distance apart. The stone inscription on the ceiling of the lower tunnel reads “Shiguan Temple,” written by Xu Zhaoding. The inscriptions on the ceiling of the upper tunnel read “Key to Qin Chuan,” and those on the steep cliff of Dayawo, 500 meters upstream, read “How Hard Can the Shu Road Be?”—all penned by Zhao Zukang.
