Introduction: Yele Nature Reserve is located in Yele Township in the northern part of Mianning County. It lies on the eastern edge of the Hengduan Mountains, in a high mountain and canyon area that serves as the transition zone from the mountainous regions of southern Sichuan to the plateau of western Sichuan. It is the source of the Nanya River, a primary tributary of the Dadu River, and sits at an elevation ranging from 2,320 to 5,299 meters. The reserve covers an area of 247 square kilometers. The climate is a subtropical monsoon climate with characteristics of a plateau climate—mild winters and cool summers, abundant rainfall, distinct dry and wet seasons, frequent cloud cover, limited sunshine, and a frost-free period of only about 180 days. The forest coverage rate is around 60%, with distinct vertical distribution of vegetation and rich plant species, including over 100 types of ancient woody plants native to China such as Yunnan fir, dragon spruce, Michelia wilsonii, Tetracentron sinense, yew, and birch. The area is home to more than 400 animal species, including over 30 second-class nationally protected animals as well as first-class protected species such as the giant panda, takin, clouded leopard, and Lady Amherst’s pheasant. This region is a rare natural zoo and an immensely rich species reservoir, often referred to as the “North-South Animal Corridor.” The natural resources in Yele Nature Reserve are extremely abundant, especially its natural landscape resources. The Yele Natural Pasture is refreshing and uplifting, and when combined with the majestic sight of the highland lake—Yele Reservoir—it makes for an exceptional destination for eco-tourism and sightseeing. Transportation: Located in Yele Township, north of Mianning County in Xichang, it borders the southern part of Shimian County in the Ya’an region. From Xichang Passenger Transport Terminal, take a direct bus to Mianning (7:00–17:40, fare 16 RMB/person), then transfer to a direct bus to the scenic area from Mianning.

Yele Township: Yele Township spans an area of 367 square kilometers, with a total population of 973 people, the vast majority of whom are of the Yi ethnic group. The arable land area is 5,376 mu, and the total industrial and agricultural output value is 5.28 million RMB, including 4.23 million RMB from agriculture and 1.05 million RMB from industry. The township has promising prospects for livestock development, with over 5,000 large livestock such as cattle and horses, and 7,660 sheep.

The key national project—Yele Reservoir Dam—is located within the township, with a total reservoir capacity of 298 million cubic meters.
