In 1935, during the Long March of the Red Army through Mianning, Marshal Liu Bocheng formed a brotherhood with Gouji Xiaoyadan by the Yihai Lake, achieving the world-renowned “Yihai Alliance.” This enabled the Red Army to successfully pass through the Yi ethnic region and helped the Yi people establish a revolutionary armed force — the Chinese Yi People’s Red Army Gouji Detachment. In 1980, it was announced by the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit. The memorial hall officially opened to the public free of charge in May 2005.

The name “Yihai Alliance Memorial Hall” was inscribed by Liu Huaqing, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission. It houses exhibition halls for revolutionary relics, folk cultural relics, temporary exhibitions, a VIP lounge, and an academic lecture hall. It is equipped with modern technologies such as sound, light, and electricity, and preserves many precious relics from the time of the Yihai Alliance. Key collections include one national first-class relic — an armband of the Third Red Army Group, over 70 national third-class relics such as Red Army seals, books, pens, and broadswords used by the Mianning County Anti-Tax Resistance Army (the first revolutionary armed force established after the Red Army entered Sichuan), as well as over 200 ungraded Red Army relics. It also holds dozens of reproductions such as the flag of the Chinese Yi People’s Gouji Detachment (awarded by Liu Bocheng to Xiaoyadan during the Yihai Alliance), the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army proclamation, and items used by the Red Army. These artifacts bear witness to the legendary history of unity and progress between the Han and Yi peoples, as well as the significant contributions made by ethnic minority compatriots to China’s revolution.

The “Yihai Alliance” fully demonstrates the success of the Party’s ethnic policy and records the unity and progress of the Han and Yi peoples, along with the major contributions of ethnic minority compatriots to China’s revolution. It serves as an important site for revolutionary tradition education, ethnic unity education, and patriotic education.

Transportation Take the Ya’an–Xichang Expressway, exit at Yihai Station — proceed to Yihai Town — then to Yihai Village.

Protected Area: Bounded by the Haidi Baobao Mountain Ridge to the east and the valley to its north, a horizontal line 200 meters from the water outlet to the south, the 2440-meter Watchtower Hill to the southeast, the 2642-meter hilltop leading northward along the mountain channel to the west (extending to the northwest mountaintop, including Honghai and Heihai Lakes), and bordered by the Baisha Valley and valleys north of Honghai and Heihai Lakes to the north.

Construction Control Zone: Areas outside the key protected zone within the mountainous surroundings of Yihai Lake, as well as the area within 10 meters on both sides of the road leading up to the lake.
