Guanyinqiao Business District Urban Tourism Area

The Guanyinqiao Business District Urban Tourism Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Located at the geometric center of Chongqing’s Yuzhong Peninsula and northern districts, Jiangbei District’s Guanyinqiao has long been a bustling commercial hub. Designated as one of the five major business districts by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, it serves as the political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub of Jiangbei District.

Guanyinqiao Business District — Centered around the Guanyinqiao Roundabout and radiating along Jianxin East, South, West, and North Roads within a 1,000-meter radius. As the birthplace of commerce in the northern urban area, this district once ranked as the second-largest business hub in the mid-1990s due to its proximity to Jiefangbei and the development of the new district. However, with improved transportation and an irrational commercial structure and layout, it experienced a "commercial hollowing" phenomenon that limited the development of large-scale, comprehensive commercial properties. Currently, with the redevelopment and implementation of the Guanyinqiao Business District plan, the entry of Longfor · Beicheng Tianjie and Xiexin · Golden Coast is repositioning the area to attract consumers from the district and further north. The total commercial floor space now approaches 300,000 square meters.

Market Analysis

In the past, Jiangbei District had relatively few large commercial properties such as department stores and supermarkets, with most commercial spaces consisting of street-front shops. Among department stores, only two major ones currently exist in Jiangbei: Chongqing Department Store and New Century Department Store, with the rest mostly small to medium-sized. Large-scale comprehensive supermarkets like Carrefour branches have helped compensate for the lack of variety in commercial property types. Street-front shops dominate the commercial landscape in the Guanyinqiao Business District, particularly along both sides of Jianxin North Road.

Recently, emerging shops are mainly concentrated on European-style streets, focusing on dining and leisure entertainment. Major specialized markets include large commercial properties primarily dealing in furniture, such as Nanya Furniture Plaza and Golden Guanyin Furniture Market, as well as those focusing on home appliances, like Gome, Suning, and Shangshe Electrical Appliances.

Future Development

The Guanyinqiao Business District aims to accelerate its growth in line with its goal of becoming Jiangbei District’s urban economic growth pole and a showcase for the city’s image. It will continue to expand and strengthen, progressing alongside Jiangbeizui to form the two main pillars of modern services and urban branding in Jiangbei District.

Within the next five years, the Guanyinqiao Business District will undergo a revitalization — developing a 5-million-square-meter “One Core, Four Zones” core business district anchored by projects such as Sun Valley, a super-large Xinhua Bookstore, and Bainaohui.

The expansion will radiate outward from the current Guanyinqiao Business District in all four directions. The core area will grow from 1.5 square kilometers to 3 square kilometers. To the east, it will extend into the Yanghe area, creating a hub for diverse cuisines; to the west, into the Xiaoyuan area, establishing a romantic Golden Street, Langqing Plaza as a wedding destination, and the stylish Jialing Water Street, while connecting to the city’s largest urban park, Hongen Temple Forest Park; to the south, into the Yesigou and Sansteel Plant areas, fostering international creative R&D, auto exhibitions, and exotic-themed creative spaces; to the north, into the Yaizi Qiu area, developing luxury-grade business headquarters, Grade 6A Class A office buildings, and ultra-luxury five-star hotels as a model business district.

The philosophy of “organically integrating urban planning with commercial planning, urban construction with commercial investment attraction, and urban landscapes with commercial shopping” runs throughout the development of the Guanyinqiao Business District. This approach enhances the city’s image, highlights its cultural strengths, and establishes it as “a benchmark in urban planning and management, a paradise for shopping and leisure, a hotspot for corporate investment and development, and a sacred destination for tourists,” achieving an elegant and grand urban layout.
