Yongchuan Museum

Yongchuan Museum is located at No. 801 Wenchang Road, Yongchuan District, Chongqing (east of Shen nv Lake), backed by Chashan Bamboo Sea, with Shen nv Lake Park to the west and Changzhou Ancient City to the east. Construction began in 2009, and the museum was completed and opened to the public in 2018.

The main building of the museum has a classical Chinese-style frame structure, with a construction area of approximately 9,000㎡, and includes a landscape river about 600 meters long along with three arched bridges crossing the river. The exhibition space spans three floors, covering themes in nature, history, and culture. Major exhibition areas include “Beautiful Yongchuan,” “Vast Changes,” “Hometown of Dinosaurs,” “Natural Treasures,” “Ancient Traces,” “—Mellow,” and “Prosperous Yongchuan.” In addition to basic displays of historical relics, the museum prominently showcases natural exhibits such as the Shangyou Yongchuan Dragon and petrified stone pine, as well as artworks representing China’s ‘hometown of calligraphy’—notably paintings and calligraphy by Chen Zizhuang.

The museum currently houses over 1,700 sets of movable cultural relics, totaling nearly 5,000 pieces. These span more than ten categories including stoneware, pottery, porcelain, jade, bronze, ironware, and woodwork. Among them, there are 9 national second-grade relics and 60 national third-grade relics. The relics date from the Neolithic Age to the modern era, with those from the Ming and Qing dynasties forming the majority.

In 2020, Yongchuan Museum was included in the “Fourth Batch of National Second-Grade Museums.”
