"We wanted to declare our love in this way." Cai Yangbo and Hu Feifei from Shaanxi tied the knot on the morning of March 31. Instead of a Mercedes or BMW, their bridal procession was a tandem bike accompanied by over 200 cycling enthusiasts.
At 9 a.m. that day, a large group of cyclists gathered at the People’s Square in the new district. When the couple appeared, the cyclists erupted in cheers. They accompanied the newlyweds on their tandem bike, riding from People’s Square to Xinglong Lake. Amid the onlookers, Cai Yangbo kissed his bride on the cheek, prompting a wave of cheers from the cyclists who sent their blessings: "Spinach (Cai Yangbo’s nickname in the cycling group), congratulations on your wedding!"
Since the beginning of the previous year, four local couples have used this method to announce their transition from singlehood. "The first one," Leng Xiaodong, also participated in the event that day: "This way of getting married not only saves money but is also low-carbon and environmentally friendly."
That day, the wedding procession encountered cycling groups from Jiulongpo District and Hong Kong, China. These cyclists also sent their blessings to the newlyweds.

"Congratulations on your wedding!" Just as the newlyweds were tying the knot, their wedding procession happened to encounter more than 120 Hong Kong cyclists passing by. Yu Jachi, the leader of the Hong Kong cycling group, told reporters that since 2009, the "Wong Lai Pui Charitable Foundation" and the "Hong Kong Cycling Touring Club" have organized a cycling event called "Hong Kong-Sichuan Heart-to-Heart Cycling Tour."
According to the plan, they will spend five years cycling in segments along the routes from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, Guangzhou to Guilin, Guilin to Guiyang, Guiyang to Chongqing, and Chongqing to Mount Qingcheng. They hope to remind Hong Kong people to care about the nation, continue paying attention to the Sichuan earthquake victims, and support the affected areas.
This year is the final event, with the theme "Chongqing-Sichuan Showcasing New Hope," aiming to raise 1.2 million yuan in charitable funds, all of which will be donated to the Hong Kong charity "Stand Tall" to help amputees from the Wenchuan earthquake. Over the past four years, the event has raised 1.86 million yuan for Wenchuan earthquake victims.
On March 29, the Hong Kong cycling group set off from Sha Tin, Hong Kong, then took a bus to Shenzhen Airport and flew to Chongqing. On the 30th, they departed from Chongqing to Yongchuan. After resting overnight locally, they will travel through Neijiang, Ziyang, and Chengdu to reach their final destination, Mount Qingcheng. The entire journey will last 10 days, covering a total distance of 490 kilometers.
Several cyclists in the group are over 70 years old. There are also newlywed couples who are using this event as their honeymoon trip.
