Tomb of Qin Liangyu

The Tomb of Qin Liangyu is a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality.

The Tomb of Qin Liangyu is located 7 kilometers east of Shizhu County, covering an area of over 20 hectares. It was built in the fifth year of the Shunzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1648). Facing the Long River in the front and backed by HuiLong Mountain, the cemetery is densely forested with lush pines inside and surrounded by graceful bamboo groves outside. At its center stand two tombs of Qin Liangyu. Legend has it that there are as many as 48 tombs attributed to her, but it remains unclear which are genuine. The tombstone here reads: “...Tomb of the Noble Lady Qin, the Loyal and Chaste Marquis ZhenSu, Guardian of the Crown Prince,” with the horizontal inscription “Glory for a Lifetime” and the couplet: “Inheriting lands with grace and virtue, robed in brocade and silk, she upheld the dignity of office; aiding the Ming court with loyalty, a lone heroine famed for her martial prowess.” Flanking the stele are a pair of qilin (mythical beasts), along with a green lion, white elephant, stone statues, and stone horses on either side. The cemetery also houses over 20 tombs of Qin Liangyu’s brothers, descendants, and subordinate generals. In front of the cemetery, along the banks of the Long River, lies the “Fairy Cave,” a site of cliff coffins.
