Alhambra (La Alhambra) means "Red Castle" in Arabic. It is located in Granada, Spain, and is an ancient complex of mosque palaces and castle buildings constructed during the Moorish dynasty. The Moors refer to the Islamic conquerors of the Iberian Peninsula (now Spain and Portugal) during the Middle Ages. The Alhambra perfectly combines Islamic secular architecture with garden design techniques and is a representative of Arabic-style palace courtyard architecture. It has also been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
