The Alhambra (La Alhambra) means "the red castle" in Arabic and is located in Granada, Spain. It is an ancient complex of mosque palaces and castle buildings constructed during the Moorish dynasty. The Moors refer to the Islamic conquerors of the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) during the Middle Ages. The Alhambra perfectly combines Islamic secular architecture with garden design techniques, representing the pinnacle of Arab-style palace and courtyard architecture, and has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
