Buddha Lotus Cave

The Buddha Lotus Cave scenic area is located in Tuanjie Village, Yuchi Town, Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County, 3.5 kilometers from Yuchi Town. The area lies within the Fangdou Mountain range, surrounded by mountains on three sides. The surrounding hills are richly forested, covered with lush grass, where mountain and grass blend seamlessly, and forests intermingle with meadows. The landscape is dotted with stone buds, stone stalagmites, and stone forests.

The cave stretches 1.2 kilometers in length and was formed by the dissolution and expansion of water along soluble rock layers, joints, or fissures. Inside the cave, visitors can find naturally formed giant Buddha statues, Cause and Effect Stones, and stone corals made of stalactites. There are also many traces of ancient human life, such as unique landscapes including stone tools and pottery, as well as rare fish species like cavefish.

The Buddha Lotus Cave scenic area features a subtropical monsoon humid climate, with an average altitude of 1,200 meters and abundant rainfall. The annual average temperature is only 20°C, making it an ideal summer retreat for tourists. The terrain throughout the scenic area is flat and offers wide, open views, with terraced fields interspersed among the mountain forests. A hundred acres of lotus flowers complement the Buddha Lotus Cave, creating a distinctive landscape of mountain-water-field scenery.
