The Yuelai Watchtower Complex is a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

The Yuelai Watchtower Complex is located in Yuelai Village and Xincheng Village, Yuelai Town, Shizhu County, dating back to the Republican era. It includes the Fengxiangping Watchtower, Changling Watchtower, and Workshop Watchtower.

In 2019, the Yuelai Watchtower Complex was designated as part of the third batch of Chongqing Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government.

Yuelai Town: Yuelai Town has a long and rich history. As early as the Northern Zhou Dynasty (557 AD), Yuelai Town served as an important post station on the route from Shizhu to Hubei, the Yangtze River, and Enshi, as well as connecting those areas to Shizhu, Chongqing, and Chengdu. Established in 619 AD, it boasts a history of 1,388 years. It was also once a renowned town with numerous glorious achievements. In the second year of the Jianyan era during the Southern Song Dynasty (1128 AD), Ma Dinghu, the 39th-generation descendant of the Han Dynasty General Ma Yuan, quelled the “Five Creeks Barbarians” who rebelled against the imperial court.
