The Ancient Bayan Salt Road

The Ancient Bayan Salt Road is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shizhu County.

The Ancient Bayan Salt Road is located in Xituo Town, Linxi Town, Wangjia Township, Shijia Township, Huangshui Town, Fengmu Township, and Lengshui Town in the northwest of the county. Dating back to the Tang and Song dynasties, it is categorized as an ancient heritage site.

On December 31, 2011, the Ancient Bayan Salt Road was included in the fourth batch of cultural heritage protection units of Shizhu County.

Xituo Town: With a long historical and cultural background, Xituo was as early as the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty “a prosperous hub of water and land trade, bustling with life, resembling a thriving market town.” From ancient times to the present, it has been an important deep-water port along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and is now a key tourism gateway to the Huangshui National Forest Park.

　Xituo Town is situated on the banks of the Yangtze River in the northern part of Shizhu County. Originally named Xijietuo, it was historically known as the “western boundary of Bashu,” and got its name from its location by the river-facing backwater bay on the southern bank of the Yangtze.
