Tongliang Osmanthus Expo Garden

The Tongliang Osmanthus Expo Garden is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Western Osmanthus Expo Garden is an ecological agriculture project introduced by the government and invested in by enterprises. After nearly five years of meticulous development, the park has now essentially merged with the urban area, covering three sections: Hedong Village, Xilai Village, and Lianglu Community in Nancheng Subdistrict, Tongliang District. The “Western Osmanthus Expo Garden” spans these three areas in Nancheng Subdistrict, with the osmanthus base covering a total area of approximately 6,000 mu. Osmanthus trees have been introduced from places such as Chengdu and planted in an orderly fashion, with over 300,000 plants of golden osmanthus, silver osmanthus, red osmanthus, and everblooming osmanthus planted along village roads. The osmanthus garden is divided into five zones, each cultivating a different variety—fast-growing golden osmanthus, silver osmanthus, red osmanthus, cinnabar osmanthus, and Number One Scholar Red—making it the largest osmanthus garden in Southwest China and forming a “Ten-Kilometer Osmanthus Corridor.”

The development plan for the osmanthus industry is divided into three major sectors: the first focuses on the development of the landscaping and nursery stock industry; the second involves the deep processing of osmanthus-based products, including the development of osmanthus essential oil products and the brewing of osmanthus wine; the third centers on rural tourism development. The goal is to create a modern agricultural industrial base that integrates osmanthus festivals and leisure entertainment, and to build a four-star Osmanthus Dynasty Rural Hotel covering 380 mu.

The first sector, the landscaping and nursery stock industry, mainly aims to expand planting scale. By 2015, a large number of seedlings will be ready for sale, with 3,000 seedlings sold annually, generating an annual income of 24 million yuan. This will provide seasonal employment for 30,000 local workers, with labor income totaling 1.5 million yuan.

The second sector, the deep processing of osmanthus-based products, involves constructing factory buildings in the industrial park. Once operational, the facility will produce 1 to 3 tons of osmanthus essential oil and 2,000 tons of osmanthus wine annually, with projected annual revenue exceeding 400 million yuan. This will create 150 jobs and generate over 4.5 million yuan in income.

The third sector, rural tourism development, is thriving. Over the past two years, we have carried out comprehensive planning and design for the expo garden, upgrading and enhancing its infrastructure. Eleven viewing pavilions, 10 kilometers of pedestrian walkways through the osmanthus groves, 18 kilometers of park roads, 12 farmhouse inns, six public toilets, the Osmanthus Fairy Square (including China’s largest white marble Osmanthus Fairy sculpture, a corridor, and a fixed performance stage), the entrance square, the Osmanthus Culture Square, a commercial pedestrian street, and a 3,000-meter water feature landscape have all been completed.

Rural tourism development in the third sector is in full swing. In recent years, we have conducted overall planning and design for the expo garden, improved and upgraded its infrastructure. Eleven sightseeing pavilions, 10 kilometers of osmanthus forest walking paths, 18 kilometers of park roads, 12 farm stays, six public toilets, the Osmanthus Fairy Square (featuring China’s largest white marble statue of the Osmanthus Fairy, a corridor, and a fixed performance stage), the entrance square, the Osmanthus Culture Square, a commercial pedestrian street, and a 3,000-meter waterscape have been built.

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit is during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, when the osmanthus blossoms are in full bloom and fragrant. Tongliang County extends an invitation to residents of the main urban area: come to Tongliang during the National Day golden week to enjoy the scent of osmanthus, savor farm-style meals, and take in the pastoral scenery.

Travel Route: Self-driving visitors from Chongqing’s main urban area can take the highway, exit at the Tongliang interchange on G93, and follow the signage set up by the organizing committee to reach the Western Osmanthus Expo Garden.
