Tongliang Wu Temple

Tongliang Wu Temple is a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Tongliang Wu Temple is located on Minzhu Road, Bachuan Town, Tongliang County, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Tongliang Wu Temple is situated on Feifeng Mountain in Bachuan Town, Tongliang County, Chongqing. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, the original temple was located outside Chengqing Gate but was destroyed by fire during the She Chongming rebellion in the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the 29th year of the Kangxi reign (1690), expanded in the 3rd year of the Yongzheng reign (1725), and burned again in the 10th year of the Xianfeng reign (1860) when the Li-Lin rebel army besieged the city. It was then moved to the top of Fengshan Mountain in the 6th year of the Tongzhi reign (1867). Renovations were conducted in 1987 and 1995.

The temple faces southeast and is built along a northwest axis, featuring a traditional quadrangle layout covering an area of 3,300 square meters. It retains the front hall, main hall, and left and right wing rooms. The Wu Temple architectural complex is described as “deeply serene and magnificently imposing, surpassing other temples within the city.”

In 2000, Tongliang Wu Temple was designated as part of the first group of Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Units by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government.
