The Twelve Peaks of Wushan in Chongqing

The ancient poetic lines “Setting sail down the Wu Gorge, my heart lies with the Twelve Peaks” express people’s admiration for the Twelve Peaks. The Twelve Peaks of Wushan are located on both sides of the Wu Gorge of the Yangtze River, with six peaks on the southern bank and six on the northern bank, situated 10 to 30 kilometers from Wushan County.

The six peaks on the northern bank are: Denglong, Shengquan, Zhaoyun, Wangxia (Goddess), Songluan, and Jixian Peak, all visible from the river; on the southern bank, only Feifeng, Cuiping, and Juhe are visible. Jiantan, Qiyun, and Shangsheng peaks are hidden within the Goddess Stream.

The twelve peaks are picturesque and varied in form, renowned for their extraordinary beauty throughout history.

Transportation:

By bus: Take a bus from Longtousi Bus Station in central Chongqing — via the Yuyi Expressway — to Wushan Cuiping Bus Station (approximately 5 hours), then transfer to a bus or taxi — to Wushan Passenger Terminal on Binjiang Road (10 minutes).

By car: From central Chongqing — take the Yuyi Expressway — exit at Wushan, follow tourism signs — to Wushan Passenger Terminal on Binjiang Road (about a 4-hour drive).

Other travel options: You can take a bus or flight to Chongqing, Wuhan, or Yichang first, then join a tour group to cruise the Yangtze River and visit the Wu Gorge.

Best season: March to May and September to November are the best times to visit. The weather is mild and the scenery is beautiful.
