Wu Mountain Goddess Gorge is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Goddess Gorge scenic area is located 486 kilometers west of downtown Chongqing, 22 kilometers from Wushan County, and 170 kilometers east of Yichang City in Hubei Province. It is an important part of the main Wuxia (Witch Gorge) section of the Three Gorges Scenic Area. This area is the closest scenic spot to the Three Gorges Dam within Chongqing’s jurisdiction. With the upstream Guandu River, the middle reaches Ziyang River, and the downstream Goddess Gorge, the total length is 31.9 kilometers, and it lies 20 kilometers from Wushan County. The Goddess Gorge originates from Baofeng Mountain at an altitude of 1,462 meters in Xiangshuping, Guanyin Township, Guandu District. The 10-kilometer upper section of the Goddess Gorge, known as the Guandu River, features dense virgin forests and is rarely visited by humans, boasting extremely rich biodiversity. The area has a wide variety of wild plant species, including many rare medicinal herbs. Wildlife resources are also abundant, with several first and second-class nationally protected animals commonly seen, such as wild goats and masked palm civets. The waters of the Goddess Gorge are also home to a diverse range of fish species.

The Goddess Gorge canyon boasts clear waters, unique rocks, lush vegetation, and a dreamlike, primitive charm. It is a newly developed tourist destination alongside the construction of the Three Gorges Project. The scenic area offers stunning and tranquil views that seem to belong to another world. Further upstream, visitors can reach the remote “One-Line Sky” area at Lianghekou and the Jingtan Peak Scenic Area. The gully narrows, the currents grow swift, and these areas remain largely unexplored, making it a pristine destination along the Three Gorges tourist route. A small town with just a few dozen households shyly unveils itself to the world. Once known only to a handful of photographers, this mysterious place has now become one of the most captivating spots in the Yangtze River Three Gorges.
