Sanxi Wuyuan Cave

Sanxi Wuyuan Cave, located in Muer Village, Sanxi Township, is 35 kilometers from the county town. Originally named "Donkey Cave," legend has it that a donkey used to enter and exit the cave all year round, dating a coiled dragon inside. The donkey would bring worldly joys to the dragon, while the dragon could take the donkey for rides in the sky. A greedy wizard and his apprentice tried to use the donkey and dragon to ascend to the heavens. The master taught the apprentice to shout “Heavenly Master, come to assist!” when the donkey-dragon emerged from the cave. When the apprentice actually saw the fearsome, green-faced, fanged creature emerging, he was so terrified that he cried out for help. As a result, the donkey-dragon turned back into the cave and has remained there ever since.

The Wuyuan Cave is about 2 kilometers long, with a small stream flowing inside all year round. It features a wide variety of stalactites and stalagmites, including the Buddha Stone, Guanyin Teaching Her Child, Pillar Holding Up the Sky, Eagle Spreading Its Wings, Stone Pagoda, as well as formations resembling human organs such as the liver, lungs, heart, and the Source of Life.
