Corn Cave Site

The Corn Cave Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Wushan Corn Cave Site is the largest prehistoric cultural site discovered in Chongqing that combines both cave and open-air remains. Three archaeological excavations have been carried out at the site, revealing deep cultural deposits. Its chronological span ranges from 300,000 to 10,000 years ago, covering a crucial phase in the origin of early modern humans in China. It fills a gap in the Paleolithic cultural record of the Sichuan-Chongqing region from 300,000 to 150,000 years ago and is of great significance for exploring and studying the diversity of regional Paleolithic cultures in East Asia, as well as the ancient environmental and technological, subsistence, and behavioral patterns of ancient humans in the Three Gorges area.

The Corn Cave Site is located in Group 7, Xiaoying Village, Miaoyu Town, Wushan County, approximately 3.5 kilometers in a straight line from the Longgupo Site. The site sits on a small hill within the peak-cluster landform on the southern edge of the Miaoyu Basin.
