Dachang Residential Houses

The Dachang Residential Houses are designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in Chongqing.

The Dachang Residential Houses are located in Dachang Town, Wushan County, including a city gate, and date back to the Qing Dynasty.

Dachang Town in Wushan is situated on the northern bank of the Daning River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, about 30 kilometers south of Wushan County seat. According to the "Wushan County Annals," Tai Chang County was established here in the first year of the Taikang era during the Jin Dynasty (280 AD), renamed Dachang during the Northern Zhou Dynasty to avoid the naming taboo of Yuwen Tai, and was incorporated into Wushan County in the ninth year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty (1670). Most of the current buildings within Dachang Town were constructed during the Qing Dynasty, broadly preserving the architectural style and urban appearance of Qing-era Dachang.

In 2000, the Dachang Residential Houses were announced by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government as part of the first batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Chongqing.
