The Fanmao Li Ethnic Village

The Fanmao Li Ethnic Village is located 2 kilometers southwest of Wuzhishan City and is a settlement of the Li ethnic group. It can be reached by walking 2 kilometers along the northern bank of the Nansheng River.

This used to be a village under the “He-Mu System,” with just over ten boat-shaped thatched huts. The men grew long hair, tied it in a bun at the forehead, and wrapped their heads with red or black cloth. Their tops were collarless and had front-opening designs. The women had facial tattoos and wore tube skirts embroidered with patterns, floral scarves, and tops without buttons but with front openings. They also liked to wear earrings, necklaces, and bracelets as ornaments. After the liberation, dressing customs changed, and women only wear ethnic costumes on festivals or when receiving tourists, no longer practicing facial tattooing.

The village is run by the local Li people and now features traditional bamboo houses and other structures rich in Li ethnic characteristics. Inside the village, various labor tools, daily utensils, and entertainment equipment of the Li people are displayed. Visitors can also watch Li ethnic dance performances and purchase distinctive ethnic handicrafts.
