Shuiman Township

Shuiman Township is nestled at the foot of Mount Wuzhi, located in the northeastern part of Wuzhishan City, 34 kilometers from downtown Wuzhishan and 8 kilometers from the Ha-Yu Middle Road. The name "Shuiman" first appeared in Qing Dynasty gazetteers of Hainan, where it was one of the six dong (villages) of Guihua Tu in Ding’an County. This Li-language place name translates to “extremely ancient and supreme” in Chinese; and Shuiman’s location lives up to the meaning of its name. According to measurements by Hainan geologist Li Fu, Shuiman Township is the highest-altitude township on Hainan Island, with the township government situated at an elevation of 635 meters. Shuiman Upper Village within its jurisdiction is even higher, standing over 15 meters above the township government, making it the highest-altitude village on the island.
