Nanchouhu Village: A pearl among Haikou’s model ecological villages, stepping into the village feels like entering a rural park. There is a large lake here, with villagers living around it in prosperity — it is a well-known rubber-producing village in the area. The beautiful environment has attracted numerous visitors, including the heroes of the Shenzhou VII space mission.

In Nanchouhu Village, Qiongshan District, Haikou, rows of green shade line the paths, and the environment is natural and fresh. The entire village achieved tremendous changes in both ecological conditions and the spirit of its residents in just over eight months, completely transforming the former “dirty, messy, and poor” situation into a high-quality, well-developed ecological village where beautiful scenery abounds and the lake blends seamlessly with the surroundings.

It is reported that Nanchouhu Village raised funds through multiple channels to build the ecological village, having invested a total of 890,000 yuan in construction so far. The entire village achieved tremendous changes in both ecological conditions and the spirit of its residents in just over eight months, completely transforming the former “dirty, messy, and poor” situation into a high-quality, well-developed ecological village where beautiful scenery abounds and the lake blends seamlessly with the surroundings. Nanchouhu Village currently has 60 households and 319 residents, with 720 acres of sloping land and 260 acres of paddy and dry fields. The village’s main industry is rubber planting, with an average of 11 acres of rubber planted per household, making it a locally renowned “rubber village.”

The people of Nanchouhu Village took the initiative to greatly improve the village’s appearance. No external laborers or engineering teams were hired for the village’s construction; instead, through the villagers’ independent and collective efforts, over 9,500 labor days were contributed, saving nearly 100,000 yuan in construction costs alone. They demolished pigsties, cowsheds, woodsheds, and kitchens that detracted from the village’s appearance; paved 19 roads including the lakeside path, village entry roads, and lanes, totaling 2,531 meters, built drainage ditches, and cleaned up the village environment. Notably, they made full use of a natural pond covering 48 acres at the front of the village. Through environmental improvements, greening, and beautification, they created a beautiful recreational pond park, and also raised fish and ducks in the pond, which not only enhanced the village’s greenery and aesthetics but also increased farmers’ income. Additionally, they built new facilities such as a cultural publicity room, sports and activity plaza, propaganda corridor, basketball and volleyball courts, and leisure spots, providing spaces for cultural and sports activities. Nanchouhu Village, Haikou: Biogas Benefits Farmers

News from Nanhai Net, December 1 (Reporter Wu Wenxia): Nanchouhu Village in Hongqi Town, Qiongshan District, Haikou, is a model ecological village. On the morning of December 1, reporters learned from the village that biogas development has not only beautified the environment but also boosted the breeding industry and enriched villagers’ incomes.

At the home of villager Fu Xuezhen, the reporter saw that the family was already using biogas stoves, biogas cookers, and had installed a biogas water heater. Fu Xuezhen said that her family of 12 owns 9 acres of paddy fields and 11 acres of sloping land, with the sloping land mainly planted with rubber. Before using biogas and biogas byproducts, each acre required 80 kilograms of chemical fertilizer per year. Now, with scientific planting using biogas, only 40 kilograms are needed per acre. This means a saving of 120 yuan per acre, and with 20 acres in total, the family saves 2,400 yuan per year.

According to reports, Nanchouhu Village has 60 households and 319 residents. Since 2007, the village has aimed to develop rural biogas and increase farmers’ incomes, actively innovating a model of “joint household planning, joint pen construction, joint biogas pool construction, joint gas supply, and joint management.” Following the “three unifications” — unified design, unified model, and unified construction — the village implemented the “one pool, three renovations” biogas project, which involves consolidating pigsties, building biogas pools under them, sharing one toilet between two households, and managing them centrally for scientific pig farming. So far, the village has invested 273,000 yuan in construction, building one 80-cubic-meter underground biogas pool and 15 shared 320-cubic-meter biogas pools. Fifty households now use biogas, with a biogas adoption rate of 83.3%.

Through the effective combination of ecological village development and biogas construction, the long-standing issues of dirtiness, messiness, and disarray in the village have been transformed. Now, the village enjoys a clean and beautiful environment, and the quality of life for its farmers continues to improve. Meanwhile, biogas development has invigorated the breeding industry and promoted the development of a circular agricultural economy. According to the village head, the village now raises over 1,000 pigs, and farmers use biogas fertilizer to grow economic crops such as rubber and bananas, forming a virtuous cycle of agricultural and farmer prosperity.
