The Monument to the September 18th National Humiliation is a cultural relic protection unit of Hainan Province.

The Monument to the September 18th National Humiliation is a key cultural relic protection unit of Haikou City and a patriotic education base in Haikou. It is located in Triangle Park at the North Gate of Fucheng Town, Haikou. The managing authority is the Civil Affairs Bureau of Qiongshan District, Haikou City.

The Monument to the September 18th National Humiliation was funded through public donations and built in December 1931. The entire structure is made of reinforced concrete and features a unique and distinctive design. The monument stands 4 meters tall, with a circular base that has a diameter of 4.6 meters. The main body of the monument is shaped with three vertical sides displaying the Chinese characters for "Northeast," along with Chinese murals forming the structure, representing the three northeastern provinces of China. Each side prominently displays the bold characters “Monument to the September 18th National Humiliation.” Its main column is a hexagonal pillar, resembling a sharp sword piercing straight into the circular base that symbolizes the rising sun flag of Japanese invaders, signifying the Chinese people’s determination to reclaim the three northeastern provinces and their strong will to resist Japanese aggression.

On September 18, 1931, the Japanese imperialists launched a surprise attack on Shenyang, beginning the full-scale invasion and occupation of China’s three northeastern provinces, an event known as the “September 18th Incident.” To ensure this day of national humiliation would never be forgotten, the people of Qiongya voluntarily donated funds to build this permanent monument.
