Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs in Baishixi Area

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs in Baishixi Area is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs in Baishixi Area is a patriotic and revolutionary tradition education base in Haikou City. It is located on the northeast side of the state-owned Dongchang Farm within Haikou’s jurisdiction. The managing authority is the Civil Affairs Bureau of Qiongshan District, Haikou City.

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs in Baishixi Area was completed in 1991. The memorial park covers an area of 9.8 mu, with a building area of over 160 square meters. The front exterior of the park features an arched gate, above which the four large characters “浩气长存” (Eternal Heroism) are engraved in marble. The upper part of the back features marble decoration with the inscription “功德永存” (Eternal Merits). At the center of the park stands a 17-meter-high square-column monument. The monument consists of three parts: the base platform, the pedestal, and the column. The lower base measures 3 meters in both length and width, while the top measures 0.8 meters in both length and width. The pedestal is 12 meters in both length and width, square in shape, and built with reinforced concrete.

The front of the column is inscribed with “Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs in Baishixi Area.” The four sides of the pedestal are inlaid with black marble. The front side bears an inscription: “The Baishixi Area established a Party organization in 1926 and served as an important revolutionary base in the Qiongshan and Wenchang regions, as well as one of Hainan’s renowned revolutionary bases. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the Anti-Japanese War, and the Liberation War, the people of this area, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, fought indomitably and made continuous sacrifices, making significant contributions to the liberation of the people of Hainan. Numerous heroes emerged during various revolutionary struggles. A total of 359 martyrs gave their lives for the cause, 3,500 civilians were killed by the enemy, and 40 villages were burned and razed. The deeds of these heroes are moving and will be forever revered by the people.” In addition, a pair of 3-meter-high dragon pillars stand on both sides of the monument, along with a four-cornered pavilion topped with orange-yellow glazed tiles and two wall corridors. The front and back of the wall corridors are inscribed in marble with the monument’s background, the names of the martyrs, and inscriptions from leaders at various levels.
