On the morning of April 26, 2013, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hainan History and Chronicles Museum was held. In the light drizzle, over 70 representatives from the project’s construction entity — the Provincial Party History Research Office (Provincial Local Chronicles Office), the construction contractor — Hainan No. 5 Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., and the supervisory unit — Hainan Kent Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony. There were no flowers, no colorful flags, no blaring drums or gongs, nor any red carpets or large crowds of guests — everything felt simple yet extraordinary.

The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Chen Bo, Deputy Director of the Provincial Party History Research Office (Provincial Local Chronicles Office), with a speech given by Deputy Director Xu Damin. Xu pointed out that building the Hainan History and Chronicles Museum is a shared dream of Hainan’s history and chronicles workers and a common aspiration among history and chronicles enthusiasts across the province. Since the project was approved in July 2011, with strong support from provincial leaders and relevant departments, and through more than a year of intensive preparation by all involved, the project has finally received approval from the provincial Party committee and government to officially commence construction — truly a cause for great celebration. He expressed hope that the construction and supervision teams would work diligently, ensure safe and efficient production, keep to the schedule, maintain high quality, and build the museum into a top-quality and exemplary project as soon as possible.

The Hainan History and Chronicles Museum project is located in the Cultural Park on Guoxing Avenue, Haikou City, with a total construction area of 9,000 square meters and a total investment of 63 million yuan (excluding land acquisition costs). Once completed, the Hainan History and Chronicles Museum will become an important base for patriotic education and revolutionary tradition education in Hainan Province, a key window for showcasing the province’s conditions, and a significant attraction for red tourism.
