The Former Residence of the Hou Family in Qiongshan is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Also known as the Hou Family Residence, Xuande Mansion is located in Baodao Village, Lingnan Village Committee, Jiuzhou Town, Haikou City. It is an honorary residence name bestowed upon the ancestors of the Hou family from Qiongshan by Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, aiming to commend the virtues and character of the Hou ancestors in Baodao Village for future generations to emulate.

Xuande Mansion covers nearly 12,000 square meters and features neatly arranged buildings consisting of four rows of houses oriented from north to south, totaling 15 structures, along with an additional row of crosswise houses on the easternmost side, comprising over 10 rooms. These houses were built as early as the late Ming Dynasty, with the oldest ones being over 300 years old, while the latest were constructed in the 17th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty, also boasting a history of over a hundred years. In 2009, Xuande Mansion was listed as a Hainan Provincial-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit, and in 2016, Baodao Village where it is located was included in the fourth batch of China’s Traditional Villages list.

On October 7, 2019, the Former Residence of the Hou Family in Qiongshan was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Lingnan Village: Introduction to Lingnan Village Committee

Lingnan Village Committee is located in the southern part of Jiuzhou Town, within the Yangshan area, approximately 8 kilometers from Jiuzhou Market. It administers 10 natural villages: Meiben, Meiren, Meiao, Baodao, Huangqun, Nanliu, Yangfeng, Bu’an, Meibei, and Meipian, with a total of 865 households and 3,735 residents. The cultivated land area spans 12,100 mu, including 4,200 mu of paddy fields and 7,900 mu of sloping fields. The main agricultural focus of Lingnan Village Committee is the cultivation of traditional crops such as rice and sweet potatoes, supplemented by winter melons and vegetables, bananas, and sheep farming, indicating a relatively single industrial structure.
