The Yantangpi and Tingtangpi Water Conservancy Projects

The Yantangpi and Tingtangpi Water Conservancy Projects are designated as National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Located to the east of Yayong Village, at the village committee of Xinlian Village in Longquan Town, Haikou, lie the Yantangpi and Tingtangpi Water Conservancy Projects—hailed as Hainan’s “Dujiangyan.” When it comes to this water conservancy system, locals can’t stop singing its praises.

The Yantangpi and Tingtangpi Water Conservancy Projects are situated in the central part of Haikou City, within the area among Longtang Town, Longquan Town, and Longqiao Town in Qiongshan District, Haikou City, Hainan Province, and they serve five surrounding administrative villages (Xinlian Village, Fuwei Village, Sanqiao Village, Renzhuang Village, and Sanlian Village).

The Yantangpi and Tingtangpi cover a total area of about 300 mu. Yantangpi is 3 zhang 8 chi wide, 1 zhang 6 chi high, and over 200 zhang long, while Tingtangpi is 2 zhang wide, 1 zhang 8 chi high, and more than 300 zhang long.

These two irrigation systems were first built during the Tang Dynasty and have a history of over 1,200 years. They have been well preserved and continue to nourish tens of thousands of acres of fertile farmland in the Yangshan region. On October 16, the project was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

On October 7, 2019, the Yantangpi and Tingtangpi Water Conservancy Projects were listed in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
