Introduction The South Pearl Palace is located opposite the Beihai Underwater World (i.e., the aquarium). It features a unique design and a grand structure, blending the classic charm of South Sea pearls with the elegance of modern architecture. It is hailed as the palace of pearls. In Beihai, the hometown of South Sea pearls, the most exquisite pearls are hidden within the South Pearl Palace. Inside the palace, there is a "South Pearl King" as big as a grape and weighing 3.6 grams, harvested near the Bailong Pearl Pond in Hepu. It is the largest natural saltwater pearl in China today and has been appraised by international jewelry experts to be worth millions. It is said that a wealthy businessman once offered a Mercedes-Benz in exchange for it, but was refused; another major entrepreneur offered $100,000 to buy it, also without success. The reason? Ever since it first shimmered in 1990, this pearl has enjoyed the status of a “national treasure” and has become the pride and joy of the South Pearl Palace. Within the palace’s over 1,000-square-meter hall, besides jewelry, there is also an eye-catching mural stretching over 900 meters, depicting the heyday of pearl diving and whispering timeless legends through song and sorrow. Visitors can directly observe pearl cultivation tanks and rare giant mollusks.
