Former Site of Puren Hospital This hospital was established under the leadership of British doctor couple Dr. and Mrs. Koda in the 12th year of the Guangxu reign (1886), making it the earliest Western-style hospital in Beihai. It is located within the current People's Hospital on Heping Road, where only two structures remain: the Octagonal Building and the Doctors' Building. The Octagonal Building is a three-story brick-and-wood structure, octagonal in plan view, with each side measuring 2.75 meters, and a total height of 13.2 meters. At the time, it was the tallest building in Beihai, featuring a hipped roof all around and a floor height of 0.8 meters. In 2001, it was designated as a National Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.
