Gongcheng Hongyan Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Hongyan Ecological Tourism New Village is located south of Gongcheng County, 1.2 kilometers from Lianhua Town and 14 kilometers from the county seat. It enjoys excellent transportation and communication links, as well as a beautiful natural environment. The Lianhua River flows through the village, lined with green bamboo groves and willows, with clear and slow-moving water — an ideal spot for boating and leisure. The area around the houses is filled with lush fruit trees. Behind the village lies the karst landscape of Horse Head Mountain, featuring verdant hills and charming scenery. In front of the village is the largest pollution-free fruit production base in Gongcheng — the Liantangling Pollution-Free Persimmon Standardized Cultivation Demonstration Base in Lianhua Town. The village still has many century-old persimmon trees, as well as historical relics such as ancient buildings, horse-tying stones, and plaques, reflecting a certain cultural heritage.

The total area of the ecological scenic zone is 6.8 square kilometers. Planning began in 2002, and it officially opened to the public in October 2003. With an investment of over 11 million yuan, more than 60 farm villas have been built, offering a total of 300-plus guest rooms and nearly 50 restaurants. Tourist facilities include the Yao-Yu Bridge, spillway dam, plum blossom piles, viewing platforms, the main venue for the Persimmon Festival, parking lots, circular village roads, illuminated basketball courts, and hiking trails. The scenic area also features China’s only pollution-free fruit production base of 10,000 mu (about 667 hectares) of persimmons, which holds the title of “Hometown of Persimmons.”

The village still has many century-old persimmon trees, as well as historical relics such as ancient buildings, horse-tying stones, and plaques, reflecting a certain cultural heritage. Hongyan Village has 95 households and a population of 390. In the early 1990s, the village’s economy was underdeveloped, mainly relying on rice cultivation and other cash crops, with low household incomes and an average annual income of less than 400 yuan. The winds of reform and opening-up awakened the villagers. With guidance from the government and technical support, they made full use of local advantages, actively adjusted their planting structure, reclaimed barren hills, and planted persimmons in large contiguous areas. By 2003, the village had planted over 600 mu of persimmons, yielding more than 2,800 tons annually, and the per capita annual income reached over 4,000 yuan. Over the past decade, life in Hongyan Village has improved steadily, like sesame flowers blooming higher and higher.

To make this “highlight” shine even brighter and fully leverage local resources and regional advantages, the county government designated Hongyan Village as a model village for building a prosperous eco-friendly home at the beginning of this year. They decided to plan and construct the village according to “high starting point, high standards, high quality, and high requirements,” carrying out comprehensive planning for the ecological environment, roads, water conservancy, planting, breeding, greening, and sanitation. This aims to achieve coordinated development among the economy, society, and ecological environment. Construction of the Hongyan New Village officially began in early March this year. According to the plan, 31 independent villa-style buildings have been completed. The Yao village wind-rain bridge, spillway dam, plum blossom piles, large and small parking lots, tourist trails, garden-loop roads, viewing pavilions, environmental greening, large pig farms, and shared biogas digesters have also been largely completed. While focusing on village construction, the villagers have stayed true to their roots, adhering to market orientation, driven by technology, and centered on efficiency. They have introduced advanced technologies, implemented standardized pollution-free persimmon cultivation, and built over 10 small fish ponds around their homes. Bug-attracting lights have been installed above the ponds, using biogas slurry and insects as fish feed. This reduces fish farming costs and the frequency of pesticide use in orchards, ensuring food safety, improving the environment, and increasing income. The people of Hongyan not only focus on fruit production and breeding but also on developing eco-agricultural tourism. Sightseeing in the 10,000-mu persimmon orchard, courtyard breeding tours, and all-inclusive services for eating, accommodation, and entertainment are gradually being improved.
