Guangxi Science & Technology Museum

The Guangxi Science & Technology Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a base for science education.

The Guangxi Science & Technology Museum was a key project created as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It was officially approved on March 3, 2006, construction began on December 28, 2006, and the museum was completed and opened to the public in December 2008. It covers a land area of 14,655 m², with a total construction area of 38,988 m², and a total investment of approximately 250 million yuan.

Themed around “Exploration • Science • Innovation,” the Guangxi Science & Technology Museum features an appropriately sized venue with comprehensive functions. Its exhibition areas are distinctly themed, technologically advanced, and highly interactive. The museum includes permanent science exhibition halls, temporary exhibition spaces, a youth science workshop, high-tech cinemas, academic exchange facilities, and more. The permanent science exhibition hall spans approximately 13,500 m² and houses 457 exhibits and displays, primarily covering important fields closely related to people's social lives and sustainable development, such as engineering technology, information technology, and bioengineering. It also emphasizes showcasing regional characteristics and scientific achievements from Guangxi and ASEAN countries. The exhibitions are divided into three major zones: “Inspiration & Exploration” (second floor), “Science & Life” (third floor), and “Innovation & Vision” (fourth floor), encompassing seven sections: Children’s Playground, Science Discovery, Environmental Survival, Life & Health, Information World, Challenge & Innovation, and Future Vision. The temporary exhibition hall is located on the first floor of the main building, covering about 2,400 m², and is mainly used for short-term science-themed or hot-topic exhibitions. The Youth Science Workshop is situated on the sixth floor of the museum, with a total area of about 1,300 m², offering programs focused on technological innovation and extracurricular education for young people. The museum also features two special theaters: a dome theater and a 4D theater. The dome theater covers about 250 m² and can accommodate 166 visitors. It serves both as a planetarium and a dome film theater, where visitors can enjoy immersive dome films and rare celestial motion and astronomical phenomena. The 4D theater is about 60 m² and accommodates 38 people. The combination of 3D imaging and environmental effects such as water sprays, wind, and fog creates a thrilling and entertaining visual experience.

The Guangxi Science & Technology Museum is located at No. 20 Minzu Avenue, Nanning, situated in the political, economic, and cultural center of the autonomous region. It is close to major public facilities such as Minzu Square, the Guangxi People’s Hall, and the Guangxi Museum, and enjoys convenient transportation.

At the end of December 2009, after evaluation by the National Tourism Attractions Quality Rating Committee, the Guangxi Science & Technology Museum was awarded the title of National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction.
