The Guangxi Museum of Nature is situated on the eastern side of Bailong Lake in People’s Park, Nanning. It originated as the Natural Science Department of the Guangxi Provincial Museum, which was founded on July 1, 1934. It became an independent institution in 1988 and officially opened on January 1, 1989. It is currently a National Second-Class Museum, a Key Museum in China, and a National Science Education Base. It is also one of only two provincial-level natural history museums in western China.

The Guangxi Museum of Nature is primarily engaged in the collection, preservation, research, and exhibition of natural specimens such as living plants and animals, rocks and minerals, and fossils of ancient animals (including ancient humans). Its collection includes over 50,000 natural specimens, covering ancient animal and plant fossils, modern flora and fauna, and rocks and minerals.

The museum boasts a highly skilled team of professionals who have achieved remarkable success in scientific research and science education. Over 100 research papers have been published in prestigious domestic and international academic journals. It also maintains active exchange and cooperation with professional institutions in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Thailand.

Currently, the museum's permanent exhibitions include "The History of Earth and Life," "Exhibition of Rare Animals," and an outdoor science education garden. There is also a regular program called the "Science Meets Art Classroom." The museum regularly takes its exhibitions out to schools, communities, and mountainous areas, building the science outreach brand "Hand in Hand—Science for the People."
