Nongguan White-headed Langur Ecological Park

Nongguan White-headed Langur Ecological Park is located at the border of Luobai and Banli townships in Jiangzhou District, Chongzuo City (formerly within the Rare Animals Nature Reserve of Chongzuo County), 35 kilometers from the county seat. The reserve features majestic peaks and an elegant environment, making it one of China’s typical well-preserved subtropical karst landforms and natural resource areas. According to expert surveys, the park is home to over 60 species of mammals, more than 100 species of birds, over 30 species of reptiles, over 20 species of amphibians, and thousands of endemic plant species, including more than 100 with medicinal value. It also grows the “Queen of the Tea Family”—the Golden Camellia. Among the various mammals, there are 18 groups totaling over 240 white-headed langurs, which are classified as a national first-class protected animal.

The white-headed langur is a rare animal in the world and a first-class wild protected species in China. There are only about 700 individuals left globally, fewer than the number of China’s national treasure, the giant panda. This species is found only in China, specifically distributed across the southwestern Guangxi region in counties such as Chongzuo, Ningming, Longzhou, Daxin, and Fusui. The Nongguan mountainous area spanning 24 square kilometers across Luobai and Banli townships in Chongzuo County is a key habitat. It has been confirmed that there are around 18 groups totaling approximately 250 white-headed langurs within the reserve, making it the most concentrated and densely populated area for this species worldwide. Moreover, within the reserve, visitors can observe these langurs leaping on cliffs and playing among tree branches and vines every day from dawn until around 10 a.m., and again from 6 p.m. until sunset.
