Huashan Tourist Scenic Area is situated in the southwest of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bordering Vietnam to the southwest and northwest. Its geographical coordinates span from 21°51′N to 20°58′N latitude and 106°38′E to 107°36′E longitude. Within a 50-kilometer radius to the east lie the Pearl River Delta centered around Guangzhou, as well as Shenzhen, Hainan, Zhuhai Special Economic Zones, and Hong Kong and Macau. It is only 135 kilometers away from the regional capital Nanning. In 1998, the Huashan Scenic Area, centered around the Huashan Rock Art, was designated as a national tourist scenic area. It includes Jiangzhou District, Ningming County, Longzhou County, Daxin County, and Pingxiang City in Chongzuo City, covering a total area of 3,001 square kilometers.

The scenic area boasts a diverse range of tropical karst landforms, primarily peak clusters and depressions or valleys. The valleys are deeply cut, with unusual peaks encircling the basins. The remote land has preserved dense pristine vegetation and a large number of rare and endangered flora and fauna species, including 100 species of mammals, 235 species of birds, 40 species of reptiles, 17 species of amphibians, as well as a significant number of new plant species not previously recorded in the botanical world and key nationally protected plants.

The scenic area mainly consists of three zones and six areas: the riverside scenic belt centered on the Zuojiang Rock Art; the mountain-water and pastoral scenic belt along the highway routes; and the southern frontier scenic belt at the border with Vietnam. It also includes the Longrui, Nonggang, Longke, Encheng, Luobai, and Laituan Rare Animals and Plants Nature Reserves, as well as uniquely distinctive scenic spots widely distributed around these three zones and six areas. The scenic area is vast, with a distinct zonal distribution of landscape resources. Its scenic highlights can be summarized as one treasure, three rarities, eighteen scenes, an eighty-li painting gallery, and thirty thousand peculiar peaks. The one treasure refers to the Zuojiang Rock Art; the three rarities are the white-headed langur, golden camellia, and red stingray. The Huashan Rock Art, Detian Waterfall, Panlong Monkey Watching, Donglang Banyan Grove, Longhu Clam King, Dragon Palace Grotto, Friendship Pass Tower, Nongjin Long Scroll, Southern Great Wall, Daxin Longan, and Golden Dragon Folklore form the eighteen scenes. The eighty-li painting gallery includes two hundred li of Zuojiang landscapes, five hundred li of roadside scenery, and one hundred li of frontier landscapes, featuring over thirty thousand peculiar peaks. The wonders of the scenic area have lasted through the ages, as it was once the gathering place of the ancient Zhuang ancestors, the Luoyue people.

After being designated as a national tourist scenic area in 1998, various scenic zones and spots were successively opened to the public, accompanied by strengthened infrastructure construction. Roads, railways, and waterways are highly convenient, with facilities such as motorboats, luxury yachts, and deluxe express buses provided for travel and sightseeing. Unique sightseeing paths have been built, and multiple premium tourism routes have been arranged. Events such as the Huashan Cultural Art Festival, Detian Waterfall Cultural Tourism Festival, and Friendship Pass Frontier Tourism Festival are held annually, attracting a large number of tourists.

Huashan Rock Art: Designated as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council in 1988. According to expert research, the creation of the rock art began during the Spring and Autumn Period and continued until the Later Han Dynasty, boasting a history of over 2,300 years. The artwork stretches 172 meters in length and 50 meters in height, covering a total area of more than 8,000 square meters, with over 1,900 images of varying sizes painted on it. The artwork mainly features human figures, along with depictions of bronze drums, arrowheads, and wild animals. The human figures are shown in dancing poses with arms raised upwards and legs half-squatting. The largest figure is over 3 meters tall, while the smallest is just 30 centimeters. The color tone is ochre-red, with bold lines, varied expressions, lifelike images, and a lively yet mysterious atmosphere. The grand momentum forms a historical scroll reflecting the life of the ancient Luoyue people, demonstrating considerable artistic merit and a strong ethnic flavor. The sheer number of images, their dense distribution, the steep location where they were painted, and the perilous conditions under which they were created are all recognized as rare both in China and abroad.

Detian Waterfall: Located on the China-Vietnam border along the upper reaches of the Heishui River, the waterfall cascades down a cliff hundreds of meters long. Most of the waterfall is within Chinese territory, with a small part in Vietnam. It is hailed as the world’s largest transnational waterfall.

Chongzuo Stone Forest: Located near Xincun, about 4 kilometers south of Chongzuo, it sits within a karst basin that is 1 kilometer in area and has an average elevation of 150 meters. The scenic area features karst residual hills and caves. Due to prolonged karstification, numerous formations have created many unique stone landscapes, hence the name “Chongzuo Stone Forest.”
