White-headed Leaf Monkey Ecological Park

The White-headed Leaf Monkey Ecological Park is located at the junction of Luobai and Banlixi townships in Jiangzhou District, Chongzuo City, within the Nongguan Nature Reserve. The Chongzuo–Shangsi secondary highway runs right in front of the park entrance. It is about 35 kilometers from Chongzuo City. This ecological park is primarily known for its population of white-headed leaf monkeys.

The White-headed Leaf Monkey Ecological Park covers an area of 305,000 square meters, with a built-up area of 20,000 square meters. In 1996, Professor Pan Wenshi from Peking University led a group of students to the Nongguan Nature Reserve in Chongzuo to conduct biodiversity research focused on white-headed leaf monkeys and established a research base. In August 2002, the White-headed Leaf Monkey Ecological Park officially opened to the public. Major structures within the park include a reception service center, a theater, a science education hall, a photo exhibition room, a specimen museum, an international academic exchange center, and the Peking University research base.

The park is home to over 60 species of mammals, more than 100 species of birds, over 30 species of reptiles, more than 20 species of amphibians, and over 1,000 species of endemic plants, including more than 100 with medicinal value. Among them grows the "Queen of the Tea Family" – the golden camellia. Among the various mammals, there are 18 groups consisting of over 240 white-headed leaf monkeys, which are a Class I nationally protected rare species. As a globally endangered animal, only around 700 white-headed leaf monkeys remain in the world, with approximately 240 living here in 18 groups, making this the most concentrated and densely populated habitat for the species. In the monkey viewing area, visitors can observe these agile creatures leaping along cliffs and playing among tree branches and vines between dawn and 10 a.m., as well as from 6 p.m. until dusk. Major attractions include the monkey viewing area, the specimen museum, the theater, the photo exhibition room, and the science education hall. The site also hosts annual academic exchanges and science education events centered on biodiversity.
