Golden Cabinet Mountain

Golden Cabinet Mountain is located on the south bank of the Zujiang River in the urban area of Chongzuo City, next to the former site of the city hospital. Standing at 164.2 meters tall, it is one of the scenic spots in the city.

The eastern side of the mountain faces Lijiang Street Road, and in 1968, militia workers cut through the mountain to build a road. They constructed over 320 stone steps leading directly to the mountain top. There is also a cave halfway up the mountain, extending more than 80 meters deep. From the summit, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the county town. On the cliffs along the riverbank, there is an inscription that reads: “The Elders’ Grand Strategy, the Glorious Achievement of Pacification.” It is said that this was written in the 19th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1540), when Emperor Ming ordered Censor Mao Bowen to lead troops on a southern campaign. After repelling the Vietnamese invaders and returning in triumph, he passed through Lijiang in Taiping Prefecture. Inspired by the achievements of General Ma Yuan during the Eastern Han Dynasty in the 17th year of the Jianwu reign (41 AD)—when he successfully quelled the rebellion of the two Trưng sisters who invaded from Jiaozhi—Mao Bowen was moved to write these eight characters. He then had them engraved on the stone wall of Golden Cabinet Mountain. To this day, the ink traces of these eight characters remain visible.
