The Hundred-Mile Gallery Scenic Area of the Hongshui River is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Towering karst peaks rise everywhere, and the endless undulating mountains present endlessly varied, vividly anthropomorphic or zoomorphic shapes with their uniquely exposed forms. Deep depressions dot the landscape, and when you look down from above, you can faintly make out villages, fields, and ponds interwoven among them. It’s hard not to marvel at how this small valley feels like a paradise on earth, as if you’ve stepped into a world apart. This magical place is filled with rugged rocks and jagged cliffs, uneven and abrupt, interspersed with tough, gnarled trees and the twisted roots of banyans, giving off an aura that is dim, ethereal, and wild—an astonishing sight.

Scenery Along the Hongshui River

The Hundred-Mile Gallery of the Hongshui River, the "Mother River of the Yao People," was formed after the construction of the Dahua Hydropower Station. It features a 50-kilometer-long canyon with a water surface 300–500 meters wide, along with the surrounding landscape. The scenic area is just a 1.5-hour drive from Nanning. The waters of the Hongshui River are clear and tranquil, with towering peaks and lush bamboo and woods lining both banks. Cruising along the river, you’ll see the shimmering reflections of ripples, and the scenery changes with every movement of the boat.

Looking around, one truly experiences the poetic essence of “mountains mirrored in the water, where no mountain or water lacks charm.” Boating here, you’ll find a new view at every five steps and a new painting at every ten—a place renowned as the “Hundred-Mile Gallery of the Hongshui River,” often praised as being “more beautiful than the Li River, though not the Li River itself.”

By boat, you can visit attractions such as “Rooster Crowing at Dawn,” “Rhinoceros Drinking Water,” “Crescent Moon Mountain,” “Saddle Mountain,” “Jade Rabbit Mountain,” “Peacock Displaying Its Feathers,” “Ancient Ape Gazing at the Moon,” “Hundred Horses Among Green Bamboo,” and “Fairy Maiden Admiring Her Reflection.” Upon disembarking, you can explore the karst cave wonders of the Immortal’s Cave, Fairy Cave, and Fairy Maiden Cave, which resemble a fresh and vibrant ink painting.
