Liuyang Cave

Liuyang Cave is located about 800 meters northeast of Baimo Cave. The main cave stretches approximately 1,800 meters in length, with an average height of over 50 meters and a width of around 40 meters, generally running in a southwest to northeast direction. The cave features flowing water, fresh air, and is a natural karst cave characterized by “rippling waters and misty mountain scenery.” It includes more than 200 scenic spots such as “Liuyang Waving Blessings,” “Rooster Announcing Dawn,” “Monkeys Descending the Mountain,” and “The Monkey King Attending Court.”

Liuyang Cave is noble and ethereal, for it possesses a world of water that bathes its surroundings in delicate charm and graceful beauty. The sound of water echoes throughout the cave—some streams seem to fall from the sky, as beams of water trickle down from the cavernous ceiling into “water basins” atop cone-shaped hills, where fine streams crisscross and droplets splash everywhere. Below, there are layered “Yao Mountain Terraces,” their “ridges” flat and winding, formed from solidified lava. People can run across them without any danger. Water flows down from the upper terraces, filling each level evenly, creating pools deep enough to serve as “bathing areas,” while shallower parts remain wide and clear, safe for barefoot walking. It is precisely because of this flowing water that Liuyang Cave boasts its uniquely fantastic and spectacular cave landscapes, while also ensuring good air circulation and a refreshing atmosphere. Visitors arriving from the dusty outside world find their sweat and fatigue washed away by this serene ambiance. No wonder some visitors have exclaimed, “It’s rare to enter such a wonderful place—the hassles and burdens of work all melt away, leaving one forgetful of self and surroundings.” The scenic spots in the cave are well-distributed, clustered and scattered with varied elevations, offering a delightful sense of “losing one’s way in a maze of mountains only to suddenly discover a village beyond willow trees and blooming flowers.” When you’re at your wit’s end and longing to return, a sudden glance backward reveals the “Monkey King Attending Court” standing alone amid encircling water and peaks, pressing his palms together in reverent prayer—an astonishing sight that draws spontaneous applause.
