Moonlight over Resounding Spring is located at the strategic mountain pass “Bai Guan” between Gaoling Town and Daxing Township. Situated right next to National Highway 210, steep mountains rise on both sides, with the clear waters of the Cheng River flowing through. Here, the river is confined by a rocky gorge, creating a drop of over three meters. The water cascades down like a waterfall, crashing against rocks and sending spray several meters high, producing a thunderous roar audible for miles, hence the name “Resounding Water Pass.” On nights when the moon is bright and the breeze is cool, moonlight spreads across the scene, and silvery waves shimmer brilliantly, creating a picturesque and majestic sight that is both a visual and auditory delight. Visitors to this place always find their spirits refreshed and their hearts cleansed of worries. A poet of old once wrote: “No painting could match nature’s own art, / Among the Eight Scenic Spots of Anding, it takes the first part. / The splashing waters teem with color and sound, / Like mist or cloud the vapors hover round. / From afar it looks like a hanging cascade, / Close up it seems like a zither being played. / Who knows how many travelers are enthralled, / How often they linger, charmed by the resounding fall.” Upon seeing it, Pan Quanfang was deeply moved and composed a poem: “The pass imprisons emerald waters that kiss the sky, / In the secluded valley, nectar has brewed for years gone by. / View the splendid scene atop the moonlit hill, / One might stumble and sleep in the river, lost in thrill.”
