Weibao City was the capital built by Marquis Wen of Wei during the Warring States Period (446 BC). It wasn't until the tenth year of King Hui of Wei (361 BC), when the Wei state moved its capital to Daliang, that it came to be called the Ancient City of Anyi. In 205 BC, at the outbreak of the Chu-Han Contention, Han general Wei Bao believed that Chu would triumph and Han would fail. He used this as an excuse to lead tens of thousands of troops back to Anyi, occupy the city, declare himself king, and rule the region. Later generations thus referred to this ancient city as Weibao City.

The city ruins are 2,500 meters in circumference, divided into front and rear sections. The remaining walls stand 5 meters high and 7 meters thick, with rammed earth layers varying in thickness from 6 to 8 centimeters.
