Based on historical materials, the Guan Gong Film and Television City recreates the social milieu of the time to the greatest extent, bringing back to life Guan Yu’s birthplace—Changping Village in Jiezhou, Yuncheng. The site features both magnificent city walls and watchtowers, grand mansions that once housed the influential, as well as simple and bustling streets and alleys. Leaning against the walls or climbing the towers, visitors feel as if they have been transported back to the chaos of the late Eastern Han Dynasty, when the nation was in turmoil and the people restless. The Emperor Saint Statue Film and Television City was planned in the year 2000 and is located in Changping Village at the southern foot of Zhongtiao Mountain in Yuncheng's urban area. Facing south and overlooking the ancestral temple of Guan Yu while backed by the Guan family ancestral burial grounds, it is a complex of Han-style architecture built for the shooting of the seven-episode TV series "Wu Sheng Guan Gong: Journey from Jieliang." It serves as both a film and television filming location and a tourist attraction.
