Heyang Salt Industry Museum

The Heyang Salt Industry Museum was established in December 1995 and is affiliated with Shanxi Coking Coal Yuncheng Salt Chemical Group Co., Ltd. It is a state-owned industry museum.

The museum is located within the Temple of the Salt God at the Heyang Salt Lake. The west exhibition hall covers an area of 300 square meters and mainly displays historical salt production techniques, tools, mineral salts, and the history of the salt culture of Heyang. In the three main halls, images and text are used to showcase the millennia-old salt culture. The east exhibition hall uses scene restoration to present the intangible cultural heritage — the Kēnqí Jiāoshài method — which is a provincial-level protected cultural relic.

Currently, the central gate of the salt lake restricted wall, funded and constructed by the municipal government, has been completed. Its hollow base will serve as the site for the Heyang Salt Culture Museum.

In recent years, the museum has received nearly 100 experts from home and abroad specializing in salt culture research, including those from the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, Salt Lake City in the United States, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Shanxi Geological Museum. It has fully leveraged its role as an important platform for traditional culture and patriotic education, bringing the public closer to the museum. It has achieved positive social impact.
