Baishui Rock

The Baishui Rock Scenic Area is located in Baishui Village, Dengtang Town, Chao’an County. It is a park-like mountainous region spanning over 200 hectares, featuring naturally unique peaks and rocks, lush pines and cypresses, and distinctive landscapes that have made it a renowned natural tourist destination since the Ming Dynasty. The Lannuo Nunnery within the scenic area is a widely known Buddhist site, and after recent renovation and expansion, it has been developed into Upper, Middle, and Lower Nunneries. The nunneries boast intricately carved beams and painted rafters, with exquisitely designed pavilions and corridors. In front of the nunnery lies the Baiyun Pass, with the three characters “Baiyun Pass” inscribed by Wu Dianbang, a calligrapher from Chaozhou during the late Ming Dynasty. To the left of the scenic area is a rocky cave that can accommodate thousands of people, filled with peculiar and rugged stones; to the right are the “Immortal Cave” and “Immortal Spring,” where the cave emits a chilling aura and the spring water is cool, sweet, and refreshing. The scenic area also features a variety of other attractions, such as the Sword-Testing Stone, Echoing Stone, and Immortal Fan Stone, all of which are marvels of nature that leave visitors in awe.

Baishui Village: Baishui Village administers four natural villages: HeXi, DingCuoLiao, PuTouLing, and LongCun. Established in the mid-Ming Dynasty, it was named after the ancient Baishui Rock Temple located in the mountain valley to the south of the village. The village is home to surnames such as Ke, Chen, and Cai, with the Ke surname being the most populous, although the Chen surname was the first to settle here. As of December 2006, the village had a population of 4,120.

The Anfeng Highway runs along the edge of the village. It is 4 kilometers southeast of Dengtang Market, with mountain ranges to the south acting as a natural barrier, and the Fei’e Mountain Range surrounding the area 1 kilometer to the north. Before 1976, the Xishan Stream flowed through the village, but after the stream was rerouted, the area became more contiguous.
