Phoenix Mountain in Chaozhou is the second highest peak in eastern Guangdong. Legend has it that long, long ago, a golden phoenix laid two eggs in a mountain hollow here, which hatched into two baby phoenixes. The two phoenixes went through trials, eventually attained enlightenment, and transformed into two beautiful maidens who did good deeds, bringing peace and harmony to the world.

Phoenix Dancong is a type of oolong tea, primarily produced in Phoenix Mountain, Chaozhou City. The area enjoys a warm and humid climate with abundant rainfall. The tea trees grow in mountainous regions at altitudes above 1,000 meters, where clouds and mist persist year-round, and there's a large diurnal temperature variation. The average annual temperature is around 20°C, with annual precipitation of about 1,800 mm. The soil is fertile and deep, rich in organic matter and various trace elements, which are conducive to the growth of tea trees and the formation of tea polyphenols and aromatic compounds.

There are still over 3,000 surviving Dancong tea trees, all over a hundred years old, with unique characteristics and excellent quality. Each tree grows tall like a banyan, yielding more than 10 kilograms of dried tea per year. Due to differences in aroma and flavor, local custom classifies Dancong tea into various fragrance types such as Huangzhixiang (yellow branch scent), Zhilanxiang (orchid scent), Taorenxiang (peach kernel scent), Yuguixiang (cinnamon scent), and Tongtianxiang (heavenly scent).
