Tomb of Sun Shixi

The Tomb of Sun Shixi is a cultural relic protection unit of Chaozhou City.

The Tomb of Sun Shixi is located on the northern slope of Boye Mountain in Sangpu Mountain, Shaxi Town, Chao'an County, facing north. It features a stele pavilion and an offering pavilion, both constructed from massive granite rocks. The structure stands on four pillars, with the roof made up of several large stone slabs. The inscription on the stele reads: “Tomb of Sun Shixi, a retired official of the Ming Dynasty from Shixi, and his wife Lin from Chunde, Yuhu, known for her virtue.” About 10 meters in front of the stele pavilion is the grand offering pavilion, featuring a three-bay structure supported by eight stone pillars holding up stone beams, with the roof made entirely of granite slabs, remaining completely intact.

Both the stele pavilion and the offering pavilion are built from massive granite rocks. The stele pavilion is 4 meters high with a double-eave hip-and-gable roof. The tomb stele is inscribed with: “Tomb of Sun Shixi, a retired official of the Ming Dynasty from Shixi, and his wife Lin from Chunde, Yuhu.” Approximately 10 meters directly in front of the stele pavilion stands the grand offering pavilion, which is three bays wide (about 10 meters), 3 meters deep, and 4 meters high. Eight stone pillars support the entire massive stone roof, creating a highly impressive sight.

In 1987, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the Chaozhou Municipal People's Government.

In 2002, the town achieved a combined industrial and agricultural output value of 784 million yuan, industrial and commercial tax revenue of 3.47 million yuan, and an average per capita rural income of 3,717 yuan.
