Tomb of Lin Dajin

The Tomb of Lin Dajin is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The Tomb of Lin Dajin is located in Zhuangyuanpu on Mount Sangpu in Jinshi Town, Chao’an District, facing southwest. It features a stele pavilion about three meters high. The caisson ceiling inside the pavilion is carved with the Eight Trigrams and Taiji diagram. The horizontal plaque bears the inscription “Tomb of Lin, Scholar from Dongpu, Top Imperial Examination Graduate and Hanlin Academician.” A small inscription in the lower right corner reads “Erected with tears by his filial son Tianji.”

Lin Dajin, styled Jingfu, was a native of Shandou in Dongpu Prefecture (now within Jinshi Town), Haiyang County. He ranked first in the imperial examination in the year Xinmao of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1531 AD) and was appointed as a Hanlin Academician. Later, he requested to return home due to his aging mother and passed away in the year Yisi of the Jiajing reign (1545 AD) at the age of only 35. His work, Collected Works of Mr. Dongpu, has been passed down through generations.

In 1987, the Chaozhou Municipal People’s Government designated it as a cultural relic protection unit. In 2012, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province listed it as a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Unit.

Jinshi Town: Located in the southwestern part of Chaozhou City, Jinshi Town lies on the plain of the Han River Delta, 19 kilometers from downtown Chaozhou and 9.6 kilometers from the county seat of Chao’an, covering a total area of 23 square kilometers. It currently administers 21 administrative villages and one community neighborhood committee, with a total population of 64,585 at the end of 2002, and over 20,000 overseas Chinese and compatriots. Jinshi is the hometown of Lin Dajin, the top imperial examination graduate of the Ming Dynasty, and is known for its rich cultural heritage and talent.
