Shenshan Ruins

The Shenshan Site in Chao’an is located on the southern slope of Shenshan, south of Lishuxia Village, Guihu Town, Chao’an County. It dates back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The site covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters and was discovered in 1982. A large number of pottery shards were found, including those made from red sandy clay, black pottery, gray clay, and brown clay. The decorative patterns include cord marks, basket weaves, checkerboard patterns, diamond patterns, vein patterns, double-line checkerboard patterns, thunder patterns, kui dragon motifs, and rice-character patterns. Stone tools such as axes, adzes, arrowheads, and rings were also discovered.

Guihu Town: Located in the northern mountainous region of Chao’an County and bordering the Han River, Guihu Town is adjacent to Wenci Town and Fenghuang Town to the east, connected to Xiangqiao District to the south, bordering Chifeng Town and Wanfeng Forest Farm to the west, and linked to Fenghuang Town to the north. It is a mountainous town formed in 2002 through the restructuring of town-level administrative divisions by the provincial Party committee and government, consolidating the former Guihu Town and the former Fengnan Town. The town covers a total area of 157.9 square kilometers, governs 32 administrative villages and 2 neighborhood committees, and has a total population of 31,300. Among them, three villages—Wan Yao, Shan Li, and Xi Mei Ling Jiao—are ethnic minority villages with a population of 750.
