Xiangpu Village

Xiangpu Village is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Xiangpu Village is located in Guyi Village, Guxiang Town, Chao’an County. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, it is a square-shaped village complex covering a total width of 162.4 meters and a depth of 154.4 meters. It is known as having “three streets, six lanes, and seventy-two residences.” The entire village has only one entrance, with a passage leading directly to the ancestral Chen Clan Hall at the far end. This passage is approximately 110 meters long and about 6 meters wide. On both sides of the passage are three additional lanes, each about 140 meters long and 2.3 meters wide. Horizontally, there are also three streets that are 157 meters long, with widths of 2.7 meters, 3.7 meters, and 1.5 meters respectively from the outside in, forming a crisscrossing yet well-organized network of streets within the village.

Xiangpu Village boasts a grand scale and rational layout, integrating architectural styles and features from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

In 1987, it was designated as a cultural heritage site by the Chaozhou Municipal People’s Government.

Guxiang Town: Guxiang Town is situated in the hilly and semi-mountainous areas of the western Han River region, covering a total area of 62 square kilometers. The terrain is complex, with higher elevations in the northeast and northwest and lower in the southwest. The town is surrounded by mountains on three sides—mountainous areas occupy the northeast and northwest, the central part consists of hilly terrain, and the south is predominantly flatland. The major peaks are distributed in the northeast and northwest, characterized by high ridges and deep valleys with significant undulations. The mountain ranges are divided into eastern and western branches, each featuring dozens of peaks of varying sizes and heights. The highest point in the area is Maoding Peak in the north, with an elevation of 324.5 meters, serving as the boundary between Guxiang and Dengtang as well as Tiandong.
