Chao'an Taishi Mansion is located in Tiantou Management District, Fengxi Town, Chao'an County. It was the residence of Liu Qizhen, a successful candidate in the imperial examination (Jinshi) during the 1736 (Bingchen year) reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. The mansion faces southeast and is situated to the northwest, featuring a two-courtyard layout with a traditional wooden frame structure supported by bracket sets and beam lifting. Liu Qizhen, styled Yingzhi, passed the imperial examination at the age of 88 and was appointed as a Hanlin academician. In the 16th year of Qianlong’s reign (1751), when the emperor made his southern tour, the 103-year-old Liu Qizhen—still vigorous and spirited—traveled specially from Chaozhou to Zhejiang to welcome the emperor. As a result, Emperor Qianlong bestowed upon him sable fur, purses, and other gifts, promoted him to the rank of Reader-in-Waiting, and even composed a poem in his praise. After returning to his hometown, Liu built the Taishi Mansion in Tiantou and constructed a Chishu Tower to store the poems bestowed by Emperor Qianlong. He passed away the following year.
